I have papers filed by Christian Wise to receive a pension for his service in the Indiana war. Christian stated he was born 1770 in the State of Delaware. In Frederick, Virginia in 1792 he enlisted in the United States Service, as a private, and served three years in the campaign against the Indians under General Wayne. He was honorably discharged 19 May 1795.
Christian Wise lived for many years in Coshocton, Ohio. His military affidavit was taken on 15 December 1845 in Coshocton at which time Christian was 75 years of age and was a resident of Tuscarawas, Ohio where he probably lived with his son Abraham Wise or his daughter Catherine Wise Hill. Christian died about 1846.
Christian was twice married, first wife was Sarah whose last name is unknown but may have been Bryson, no marriage record has been found.

Christian’s second wife was Elizabeth “Betsey” Norris Norman, and they married 08 Jan 1838 in Coshocton. He was listed as Christian Wise Jr. on this marriage record.
Elizabeth Norris Norman was the widow of Abraham Norman.
Christian and Elizabeth had one son Robert Wise who was born about December 1838 in Coshocton, Ohio.
Christian and Elizabeth’s son Robert Wise lived with his ˝ brother Abraham Wise after Christian’s death. From Robert’s Civil War Pension file it was stated that Christian had died when Robert was 8 years old (about 1846) and Elizabeth had died when Robert was 14 days old (about 1838-1839) depending on what day of the month Robert was born. His birth date was not given in his Civil War pension file nor on his death record.
Robert died 30 Mar 1902 in Owen, Indiana where he lived near a couple of his ˝ siblings.
Robert Wise documented through Probate record and parents names given on one of his marriage records. Robert’s ˝ brother Nathanial Norman signed an affidavit in Robert’s Civil War pension file, also mentioned a ˝ brother in his obit.
