CATHERINE MEEK -- MITCHELL was born near Dresden, Coshocton County, Ohio. She was married to L.D. MITCHELL on December l8, l853.

MR. and MRS. MITCHELL resided near the old home in Ohio until the fall of l856, when they moved to Madison County, Iowa. After a residence in Madison County of l8 months, they again moved west, this time locating on Eden Prairie in Decatur County where they lived until l870 when they moved to the present home just north of Davis City.

To this union were born l0 children, 6 boys and 4 girls, 9 of whom are still living. All the children are married and reside in Decatur County except ABLE S., the eldest son, who resides in Cheyenne County, Kansas, and JESSIE A. who now lives in Denver, Mo.

The children in Decatur County are MARIAH M., MARY J., JERED L., ALCINDA A., RICHARD E., WILLIAM D., and SAMUEL G.

Funeral services were held at Eden Cemetery, near the old home, where her mother is buried and near where two brothers and two sisters still reside. The services were conducted by Wm. Manchester. A large number of friends were present to pay a last farewell to an old and highly respected neighbor and friend. The husband and children have the sincere sympathy of their many friends, in this their sad bereavement.

She became a member of the Church of Christ about 3l years ago and was one of the charter members of the church organized in Davis City in l878, and which membership she kept until death.
