Pardon & Mary SMITH

Looking for information on Pardon Smith and his spouse Mary. They were living in Clinton County, Ohio on October 1, 1853, when they purchased 120 acres in Mahaska County, Iowa from the State of Iowa. The US government had given the Territory of Iowa a considerable amount of land that it could re-sell to help finance the improvements to the Des Moines River to make it become navigable (those efforts all failed). Pardon and Mary Smith were among those purchasing land from the state, and they moved to Mahaska County. It appears they stayed there just a short time, as the land was sold again in November of 1855.

Can anyone tell me anything else about Pardon and Mary Smith? What's their story in Ohio?
