John Olson LEWIS Piqua,OH b 1839
I'm tracking my gggrandfather John Olson Lewis who apparently was born
in Piqua 5/15/1839
His obituary says that his mother died when he was young and his father
moved to Ellison, Illinois.
John married there and moved to New Sharon, Iowa.
I'm stuck on John's parents. The only clue is that he was a member of
the United Bretheren church when he moved to Illinois. There was a UB
church in Springfield and the 1830 census lists a Frances, Samuel, and
Zebulon Lewis in Springfield, but can't link them or the other Lewis' in
Clark county to John O. Lewis.
None of the Lewis' in the 1840 census have a male child under 5 years
old.Puzzling.Family lore is that the family came from Kentucky.
John's obituary specifically says, "Born on a farm in Piqua County
Ohio....of his early life little is recalled. His mother died when John
was quite young and his father like many another gathered his little
altogether and plunged into the wetern wilderness, settling first in
Illinois."
I've tried Pickaway County too, with no luck. Seems wisest to stay with
the obituary spelling of Piqua and go with Clark County.
Any connections please let me know.I've a good descendent line from
John OlsonLewis.
