Dear Janice,
I had a great aunt named Ruth Harkins (I believe the spelling to be correct.) I met her only twice when she visited us in Indiana the mid 1970's with the last time in 1977. I corresponded with her only a few years after that as my mom (her niece) died in 1978 and I was in college, etc. and just lost the connection unfortunately. I believe her to be the sister of one Raymond Hess, my grandfather---but am not totally sure of that. Great Aunt Ruth did live in Springfield when I knew her and I think she may have had a son, but am not sure nor do I know a name. My mom, Ruth's niece, was Bette Rae Hess Kirshner. I also know we once visited my mom's cousin in Colorado in the mid 1970's. I think his first name was Bill, but I don't know who his mother was---could have been Ruth Harkins but I don't know.
Sure hope to hear from you regarding Ruth Harkins!
