I have a handle on the Peter Arnold mentioned in the article above as the maternal grand-father of the primary subject. He was the son of Reverend David Arnold (6 Oct 1759 - 24 Feb 1844) and his wife Elizabeth Slifer (26 Sep 1768 - 18 Jan 1851).

My research target is the Slifer surname, so the Arnold's are somewhat peripheral and my knowledge of them is a bit casual. I do know that information is available. From my handiest source, I report that David Arnold was the son of John George Arnold born at Epfenbach, Kreis Sinsheim, Germany (near Heidelberg) and arrived in America on 30 October 1738.

If these are your people, then we are related, probably fifth cousins. I am descended from John Slifer III (1767 - 1836) who was a brother of the Elizabeth Slifer mentioned above.

I am monitoring the Clark and Champaign County bulletin boards because a number of other folks from the Middletown Valley area, including my g-g-g-parents, came there. Daniel Young who bought land in 1851 was relatively late. I think that I know where he got the idea, part of a spontaneous mass migration.
