Descendants of John Painter, 1834-1919, OH-MI
Looking for descendants of John Painter. The son of Andrew and Catherine Painter, John first appears in the 1850 Census
in Clark County, Ohio. There, in 1854, he married a young widow, Mary Garlough, formerly Mary Hase Tuttle (1828-1896).
John and Mary had one son, Edward Garlough Painter (1859-?).
In the 1880 Census, John and Mary Painter's household in Clark County included son Edward, daughter-in-law Emma
Brillhart, and 3-month-old grandson William.
In the 1900 Census, John Painter was still living in Clark County and had remarried.A decade later, he was again a widower,
and was living in nearby Champaign County. In about 1913, John moved to Gratiot County, Michigan, and died there in 1919.
Also in the 1910 Census, Edward and Emma Painter (who under-reported their ages) were living in Warren County, Ohio, and had six children in their household; Jane O., 17; Lorena, 16; David, 14; Katy, 12, Nolma E., 9; and Cynthia, 7 (all born in Ohio).
William, then aged 30, was living in Logan County.(This William is the right age, and indicated that both parents were born in Ohio.)William indicated that he had been married for 8 years, but was not living with his wife.
Is anyone descended from these people, or can otherwise offer additional information?
