Benjia,
Very interesting that you posted your father was in the Champaign county Children's home in Urbana and that it is now the Historical Society. My father James Dalton along with all of his siblings were also in the same home from about 1937- till they enlisted in the service or turned 18. I actually called the historical society and asked where would I find the records. I was told either the Historical society in Columbus, Ohio or Wright State University. I am on the hunt now. During the census years they are actually on ancestry. But you only have currently the 1910, 1920 and 1930's available. I was told that it opened as a school in 1910 then during rough times it became the home, the gentleman also told me that they would pack in about 50 boys to a room. How sad is that. I hope you are still looking as I see your post is a few years old. If not let me know if you have anything you can share as well.
Thank you,
Lucille Dalton, Peterson
