Elnora Virginia "Jennie" Swimley Brown

Church: Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Paris, Ohio; Zion Lutheran Church, St. Paris, Ohio.
1862 - At the age of eight, Jennie Swimley migrated with her family from Berkeley County, West Virginia to Ohio. Her father, Joseph F. Swimley, remarried in 1861 after the death of her mother, Elizabeth, in 1860.

September 24, 1930 - The following is the obituary from the "Urbana Daily Citizen" newspaper from ChampaignCounty, Ohio:
"Mrs. Elnora Virginia Brown, 77, widow of the late David E. Brown, St. Paris, died at the Memorial hospital in Piqua, Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Mrs. Brown was taken to the hospital Sunday for treatment when a scratch on her left arm developed into gangrene.""Mrs. Brown was born in Winchester, Va., August 25, 1853. She was a prominent matron of St. Paris, where she was highly respected and well-known.""Surviving are four sons, Joseph Brown, and Roy Brown, of St. Paris, Otto Brown, of Dayton, and Walter Brown, of Akron; one sister, Mrs. Vern Price, of Ada, O., three half-sisters, Mrs. Val Pemberton, of Canton, Mrs. Emma Jones of Columbus, Mrs. Hattie Swimley of Missouri, and one half-brother, Hacket Swimley of Missouri.""Funeral services will be held from the Brown residence in St. Paris, Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. The body will be laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery by Bert Richeson, funeral director of St. Paris."

March 2, 1927 in St. Paris, Ohio, at home - 317W. Main St..
Occupations: Blacksmith; grocery store owner; band leader in St. Paris, Ohio. His businesses were right next store to his home. [Today, another grocery store, Howard's IGA, stands in its place next to the house he lived in.David Brown built on a kitchen and downstairs bedroom to his house at 317 W. Main St. Originally the house,built in 1860, had 2 rooms upstairs and downstairs. All of David's children were born there. Marriages, funerals,and births all took place at this location. The house's source of heat was a coal stove. A closed staircase led to theupstairs. (From Virginia Brown Jordan in a conversation from 1996. She lived in this house growing up in St.Paris from 1929-1950.)]
