He and his brother, Joseph, went to Champaign Ohio where their Aunt Catherine (Thomas) and their Uncle Joseph Swimley resided. They married there. Joseph stayed with his wife Mary Elizabeth Cunningham. They had children: Charles, b. 1869, Edgar, b. 1874, and Emma May, b. 1879.
William married Mary Elizabeth's sister, Sarah Jane, in Ohio (their Father, George Cunningham was originally from Berkeley but moved to Ohio in the 1830's). They had a couple of children, before she died there. He re-married to Nancy S. Unknown (but her parents were possibly from the Berkeley Co. region, as well) before moving back to Berkeley County with his young family. They raised their family in the Mill Creek District (Gerrardstown, probably on or near his Father's property. By 1900 William & Nancy moved to Winchester/Frederick County VA (where other Swimley descendants were also migrating. Their children (according to census 7 other records) were: John Hoge, b. 3 Aug 1861, Virginia, b. 1863,[both from Sarah J.
