LAKE and PYLE Families in Brown County, OHIO
Posted by: Nikki NICKELL (ID *****2197) Date: March 27, 2002 at 21:09:27

This is an accumulation of information I have gathered re: Joshua LAKE and Eizabeth [I was told the name was EDMOND...but am open to changing to EGGMAN]

Joshua LAKE was in Fayetteville, Brown County, OH in 1850 as listed in census records.

Elizabeth LAKE was enumerated at a different residence in 1850, Fayetteville;

Index to marriages Cincinnati, OHIO: Isaac PYLE to Ann LAKE 3 Jul 1843

1850 OH Brown Co. Perry Twp in District # 13 9 enumerator was John G. MARSHALL; date of enumeration, 5th of August, pg 309-A
dwelling 524/ family 527:
Isaac PYLES 27 m Blacksmith PA
Hannah A. 28 f NJ
Washington 06 m OH
Maria 04 f OH
Eliza 03 f OH
Susan 02 f OH

[In the 1850 AIS of OHIO, Isaac is indexed as PYLEZ...but it was just a scroll added to the "S" Isaac neighbors, except for the family 3 enumerations before theirs, are French.]

In the town of Fayetteville on page 402, dwelling 402, family 495 is:
Eliza LAKE 44 [no occupation listed] N. Jersey
Fletcher 14 OH
Josephine 4 OH

No proof, but possibly she is mother of Hannah A.; Isaac and Hannah named a daughter Eliza.

Sarah 56 France

Old Georgetown Cemetery, Pleasant Township (part of the County Fair Grounds, located in the western section of Georgetown, the old headstones can be seen from Route 125)
LAKE, Jess W., s/o Joshua & Eliza, d. 10/8/1842, a. 13-10-25
[I spent two hours searching for this grave to photograph it...and enlisted the aid of two Boy Scouts who were placing flags on graves for U. S. GRANT DAYS in GEORGETOWN in 1997...and could not find it]

My ancestor's connection to this family is Smith PYLE, probably brother to Isaac: Smith PYLE boarded together in Cincinnati, prior to Issac's marriage to Ann LAKE. I understand Ann/Hannah [and even Nancy are used interchangeably] in early records.
