County

I would like information on the life of William Brown Jr. for whom the County was named. I know as a boy he was shot in the back after diving in a stream to get away from Indians. His father, william had just been killed. That happened in Greene County PA..he later went to KY and then later settled in what is now Brown Co..which was named in his honor. He later died in Indiana. His brother, John, is my ancestor. He was killed in 1830 when thrown by a "vicious" horse; the accident broke his neck. John's daughter, Eleanor "Nellie" married Dewitt clinton Mallory. His father, Jasper, settled near Clarington in about 1806. Jasper's brother in law, Newton, was said to be the first to run a steam power boat on the Ohio River. They raise corn and rye and made it into whiskey and alcohol and shipped to New Orleans.
