Thanks for your answer. To answer your question about the land records, they are from the Bureau of Land Management, and he is listed in a real estate transaction in 1835 and 1836. I'm not sure where to get the records, but if I find out I will let you know. I found the listing on a CD I have, but I do not have the CD with the actual records.
I have the feeling the Thomas B Stevens may be a different person. The one I found on the 1850 census was living with his mother as head of household, so I would guess his father died about 1848 or 1849. He has a 2 year old sister listed. His mother's name is Frances. I have never heard of any of our family moving to Iowa. The Thomas B Stevens I am looking for was my grandfather's father. I have the listing for him for Brown county for the 1870 census and 1880 census. I have found his land on an atlas for Brown county for 1876.
Also, when I go to the library here again, I will get you more information about Amos Stevens. They have a large book on the early history of Brown County. There were also Amos Stevens living in Indiana and Illinois. Could one of those be the one you are searching for?
Keep in touch and I will send more when I get it. My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org.
