I know this has been kicked around for many years, but I can't pass up the opportunity
to question the assertion that the town
of Aberdeen, Ohio was "founded" by Nathan
Ellis. A correct statement, I believe, is
that Aberdeen was first platted by Nathan
Ellis, but a settlement bearing the name
of Aberdeen in official documents had already
existed there 10-15 years earlier -- clearly
before Nathan Ellis was involved. I think
the implications of the word "founding" do
not apply to whatever Nathan Ellis may have
done. Aberdeen is mentioned in a record
made when it was still in Hamilton County,
Northwest Territory. It is thus older than
either the State of Ohio or Adams County.
