We hope to hear from descendants of Samuel Doty and Mary Higgins of Pike twp, New Hope/Georgetown, Brown County, OH. Samuel, born in OH, was in the 48th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Co. K, and died of wounds sustained at Shiloh (1862). Mary lived in Georgetown until her death in 1906. Both were born in 1826.

We are looking for any clues to Samuel's parents' names and hope that some of the collateral relations (Higgins, Fiscus, Durden, Warner, Richardson, Van Botts) have information.

On the Higgins side, Mary is the daughter of James D. and Nancy Fiscus Higgins, also of Brown County. Mary's siblings names are The children of Samuel and Mary are: Andrew E. (b. 1849), Francisco (b. 1850), Nancy Missouri Durden (b. 1852), Mary Belle Warner (b. 1856), Rachel Zelinda Penny (b. 1859), and Charles, my great-grandfather, b. 1861. Charles was married three times: to Catherine Jarret Reeves, Josephine Bingamon, and Ella. Children of the second and third marriages are Elsie O. (Doty) Van Botts (b. 1895), Mabel May (Doty) Richardson (b.1897), Rachel Ruby (Doty) Richardson, (b. 1899), Mary L. (b. 1907) and Gladys (b. 1909).

I have a tintype photograph of Samuel and have collected his war records; would be happy to share information.
