Dear Marilyn,

I can share information with you on Richard's son, Richard, Jr., who married Jerusha Parker. They were a Mormon family (Richard was elected an elder in 1840) and lived in Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Texas, Indian Territory, Kansas, and probably several other states. They were part of the Lyman Wight Mormon splinter group that settled near Austin, TX.

Richard died in Tahlequah, IT in 1852. At that time, Jerusha and her younger children moved to Pottawatomie County, KS. She remained there until she died in 1868. Family tradition states that they were both part Indian; I suspect that this is true and that they were Delaware or Pottawatomie.

Richard and Jerusha had a daughter, Rebecca Marie Hewitt, who married John Lockwood Adams. Rebecca and John had a daughter, Agnes Lettie Adams, who married Joseph Wesley Bair and was my gg-grandmother.

Richard disagreed with Joseph Smith, and later Brigham Young, regarding some of the Mormon philosophies and his descendants were later members of the RLDS Church.

I would like to correspond with you, and anyone else, who is interested in the story of this line of Hewitts and anyone who has information to share regarding this family.

Sincerely,

George L. Bair
