As Hoopes is a fairly common name in Chester Co, Pa, I decided to do some looking there, for the origins of you family, and found them. David Gray m 23 Sept, 1831 to Lydia Hoopes, who was born in 1812, New Garden Twp, Chester Co, Pa.

Lydia's parents were Isaac Hoopes, b 905-1780 in Edgmont, Del Co, Pa and Charity Carter.

the next generation was Benjamin Hoopes b ca 1742, Edgmont and d 3-30-1824, in Middletown, Pa. His wife was Lydia Worrall, also a common name in Chester Co.....Charity Carter's father was Caleb Carter

next generation is Abraham Hoopes.
there is a great deal of info on this family

When you begin hunting for folks, it's really a good idea to do some google searches, with things like "David Gray" +ohio +lydia Hoopes as your subject. I found everything, by doing this.

All the Hoopes data comes from a book; THE HOOPES FAMILY RECORD, BY Gerald Fuller, Lillian F. Webster, June M. Hoopes.
pbulished; Hoopes Family Organization, 1997 Campbell Rd, Houston, Tx 77080

To research these folks you need to be in Chester Co, PA, not Ohio.
