In Reply to: Belmont County McDowell, Lash Farm 1871 by S Walker of 2195

from the CENTENNIAL HISTORY OF BELMONT COUNTY OHIO, by McKelvey;
The earliest Lash I find in the area is Abram Lash, who is listed as one of the first settlers whose descendants who are still living on or near the old homesteads after the lapse of a century.....this is in the year 1901....so, Abram arrived ca 1801 and his family still lived on family land in 1901...this was in Richland twp.
Abraham Lash is also listed as being one of the first owners of lots in St Clairsville, with the purchase made between 1800 and 1802.
There are no mentions of any McDowells in this book.
The 1806 Belmont Co tax records contain a Jacob Lash, but no McDowells...
The 1810 Bemont Co tax records contain the following;
Lash, Jacob, in Colrain twp
Lash, Jacob, in Pultney twp
Nothing on McDowell....
