Hello Audrey, I too am looking for a connection for "my" Givens of Belmont & Monroe Counties in OH to the Givens in Greene Co, PA.
I did visit the Barber Ridge Cemetery, near Lewisville, in Monroe Co, OH. I found the grave of Elizabeth Givens, wife of Daniel Givens, there. They are the parents of "my" John Givens, who married Hannah J Wilson. A cousin of mine has in her possession a letter written to John informing him of his mother's death. It was signed Daniel Givens.
Elizabeth's maiden name was likely Kimble (Cimble) but I have not found a marriage license for them. So I can't say for sure.
Daniel was in Greene Co, PA. Another Givens researcher, Dr Richard M Frederick, visited Greene Co, PA and checked the Richhll Township Assessors records that date back to 1796. "The first record for Daniel was in 1804 (that was readable) and it says Daniel Gibons. From 1804-1816 Daniel's name was spelled gibons, Gibeon, Giliens, Gibbens, Gibbins, and Gibbons. Aleppo township was formed out of Richhill Township in 1816 and from 1817 to 1824 Daniels name was spelled Givens. The Richhill Twnsp assessors were German. The Daniel Givens did not move, a new township was formed. The property he occupied for 21 years was returned to a William Cook. Daniel moved to Belmont Co, OH in 1825 where he can be found in the 1830 census. Daniel was born about 1779 in MD. Tow names that need searched out in Frederick Co, MD are William Givens and Daniel Givens.
I also checked the census records and found in 1824 Isaih Givens was listed as leasing land from William Cook and in 1825 Isaiah Givens was reported gone by the Aleppo assessor. There was no Isaiah Givens in OH. I think he was Daniel's son but I have no proof."
Dr Frederick also speculated that "Daniel's father may have been a William Givens mentioned in Frederick, MD in 1790."
In my research I show the following children for Daniel & Elizabeth Givens:
William T Givens
I cannot offer definite proof for some of these children. Maybe some one else can.
Daniel died sometime after he deeded some property on 02 Feb 1868. I have never found a death certificate for him.
Also I found Moses & Ann Given buried at the Berry Cemetery in Belmont Co, OH. Moses 1771-1865 and Ann 1772-1845.
I surely hope someone out there holds the key to our puzzle.
