Please forgive the slowness in replying to your e-mail.The reason is that my daughter got married in December and I have had to cut expenses to fund the cost of the wedding. The one thing that went as my e-mail connection. So now I have to go to the local library once a month to answer my e-mail.Sorry for the slowness.
Yes, I am still involved in assisting the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic (L.G.A.R.).It is a lineage society for women age 12 or older who have either a direct, blood-related ancestor or a blood-related brother of an ancestor who served in the Union forces during the Civil War.
The L.G.A.R. is Congressionally chartered and is NOT an auxiliary to any existing organization though it does cooperate with the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War to some extent.
It was formed as an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), which was the largest Union veterans' organization after the Civil War.With the death of most of the Union soldiers, the G.A.R. disbanded in 1949.
Local chapters of the L.G.A.R. are called "circles".Our local circle is called Maj. Daniel McCook Circle No. 104.It meets bi-monthly and does Civil War projects and educational programs.
We would love to have you as a member of our circle OR help you to form a circle of your own--whichever you prefer.
It order to join, you are asked to furnish the following information:
1.A photocopy of your birth record
2.Documentation proving the relationship between each generation from you back to your Union ancestor
3.Documentation of your Union ancestor's Civil War service (if he is an Ohio soldier, we already have access to that!)
4.Completion of an ancestor sheet
5.Signature on your application blank
6.A check for the application fee ($10) plus the annual dues ($15)
