Hello,

I am a descendant of another Elijah Smith b abt 1785 who also lived in Ashtabula Co OH (Kelloggsville/Monroe). His parents were Zebulon SMITH b abt 1760 and Lovina CLARK, Quakers who migrated from VT to Canada. We don't know where Zebulon was born or his parents. For a while I suspectecd there might be a relationship (cousins?) between your Elijah and mine. (With the SMITH surname, I am willing to grasp at any straw.) However, I recently found that someone descended from 'my' Elijah and also someone descended from 'your' Elijah had both submitted DNA to the Northeastern SMITH DNA project. They didn't match so no common ancestor!
The good news is that the sample from your Elijah's male descendant appears to match with other descendants of Rev Henry SMITH b abt 1588 Norwich England>CT. There is quite a lot of good research on Rev Henry.

Perhaps you have already found this, but if not, here's the link to the SMITH DNA site :

Hope this helps.

Chris

ps I posted a similar response on the Smith message board on rootsweb, also.
