BURGETT/PATTERSON--1820
William BURGETT, Sr. migrated with his family from Chenango Co., NY to Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., OH ca. 1815. Two of his sons married PATTERSONs--Jehoiakim W. m. Catherine Anne Sarissa PATTERSON in Trumbull,Ashtabula Co., in 1826, and his younger brother, Reuben F., m. Alvira PATTERSON. Based
on the following information, it is possible that Sarissa and Alvira were sisters [and daughters of Joseph PATTERSON].
SOURCE: 1820 Federal Census, Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., OH
In conjunction with reviewingindividuals named in a diary kept by Almena [Burgett]Schellenger in Harpersfield from 1860-1865, I have been re-examining the Federal Census records for Ashtabula Co. for both 1860, 1850, 1840, 1830,
and 1820 [some of which Ruth Haines previously sent to me] and found a Joseph PATTERSON lisgted as a Head of Household living next door to my paternal ancestor, William Burget, Sr., in Harpersfield in the 1820 census with individuals enumerated by age groups as follows:
Age Groups
to 101 Male
to 161 Male1 Female
16-182 Females
16-26* [overlap]1 Male2 Females
27-45
over 451 Male1 Female
Because of the overlap in one the age groupings, it would appear that there were two females in the marriageable ages of the 16-26 age group. [Note: because of the overlap in the age groupings, it would appear that they are also the
same individuals as in in the 16-18 age group.]
These females COULD have been Sarissa and Alvira, who m. brothers Jehoiakim W. and Reuben Burget, respectively!
Does anyone on the Ashtabula List have any further information about these individuals?
