John Henry Cadwallader and Mary Jane McClellan(d) were my great grandparents. My mother was one of the children of Robert Henry Cadwallader and Sarah LeWarre (Jane) Clark Cadwallader. Robert Henry was one of the children of John Henry and Mary Jane. With some help from my mother, and much help from others, I’ve put together a reasonable file on this Cadwallader family. I also retrieved information on older family members from The Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy (a CD purchased from Family Tree Maker). John Henry Cadwallader’s parents were John Cadwallader and Anna King. Below are two notes from my file on John Cadwallader/Anna King/Sarah Deal.

Notes for John Cadwaller
From "A History of Miami County, Ohio
published by W.H. Beers.
"John was born in Bedford County, Virginia, Dec 31, 1799. He emigrated to the Kanawha Salt Works first, where he remained about two years, and then came to this state (Ohio). He located first in Highland County, and then Adams County. He lived till he came to this county in the fall of 1856; he settled here on the southwest portion of Sec. 13, and in this township (Newton) passed the remainder of his life, his death occurring April 2,1879, aged 79 years, 3 months, and 2 days. He was a minister of the German Baptist Church for 55 years, and for the later 5 years of his life was a minister for the Congregational Brethren Church of Pleasent Hill, of which he was the founder; he was a man who taught the principles of Christianity, not only by precept, but by his daily walk, and his death was a loss to the church and community. He was married to Anna King about 1823; she was born in 1801 in Virginia, she moved to Highland Co., Ohio with her parents when she was quite small; her death occurred July 25, 1864 or 1865; six sons and four daughters were the issue of this union."
I have some information on eight of the ten children.

After the death of Anna King, John married Sarah Deal. Sarah was the widow of both John Houser and Jacob Knife before her marriage to John Cadwallader in 1865. John and Sarah are shown in the 1870 census for Miami County, Ohio. Living with them are two children, William Hendrickson, age 13, and Emma Hendrickson, age 8. It would seem that these two are the children of Margaret Knife and Andrew Hendrickson, married in 1856, in Miami County, Ohio. Margaret Knife is one of the children of Jacob Knife and Sarah Deal.

John Henry Cadwallader/Mary Jane McClelland had nine children, all born in Adams County, Ohio.
James T., born 1860
Anna E., born, 1862
Robert Henry, born March 1866
Samuel Louis, born May 21, 1868
Alverna Belle, born Abt. 1871
Effie E., born May 1873
Victor K., born May 1875
Mary Rosa, born December 29, 1878
Maud Abigail, born April 6, 1883

I would be interested in exchanging information. You can contact me at my e-mail address show above.
