John Thomas Ogg and family
Good evening fellow history buffs, I'm an Ogg descendant and while gathering my census and county records on John Thomas I found that the whole family is missing in the 1870 census. A similar pattern occurs in the county poll taxes for Grimes county. I know that the family left Grimes co and moved to what was then Austin co; only later to be redistricted into the newly formed Waller county. so was 1870 the year of the move is that why they are not enumerated at all. Also I'm interested in a family tale about the Ogg(s) having some connection the Cherokee indians. I know that in Georgia where the family originated that the cherokee's presence was strong. Is it possible that John Thomas or his first wife Eliza Suggs were offsprings of a Scottish-indian mix.I not only
entertain this notion because of family hearsay but because of the 1830 and 1840 census for Richmond Co Georgi a. Both census had Ogg cohabitating with people outside of his wife and children, and in one census there is a free person of color a male inthe household. Could this be an indian servant or more so an indiam relatives?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
