I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Caution - The IFHF charges a 5 euro fee per rcd to view the details.

Note 1 - Without a KNOWN parish, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.

Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.

Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).

Note 4 - Each parish's rcds have their own quirks and limitations, too many to enumerate individually.

For John O'Gara M 1838 +/- 4 yrs in Co. Mayo with the father's forename unknown, I found 1 M rcd in 1838. The parish was Belmullet. Marriage rcds for this parish begin in 1836, B rcds in 1841. This is likely for your ancestor (actually, this is the only choice at present). A view of the detailed rcd SHOULD reveal the bride's name. Hopefully it will be Catherine XXXX; otherwise, the event wasn't rcd'd or rcd didn't survive.

For Cath(erine) Millarky M ditto, I found no matching M rcd to that of John. The search included 83 variants of this surname. It may be that your maiden name sources are so muddled that the computer can't match it to this dataset.

For Mathew Donoghue M 1837 +/- 4 yrs somewhere in Ireland with the father's forename unknown, I found 5 M rcds: 1834 Limerick, 1835 Cork, 1837 Galway, 1838 Longford, and 1839 Cavan. Without Jane's maiden name, you will have to view each rcd to find the right one (if it is really there).

Google the foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genform msg.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
