Gedcoms have pros and cons to thems. Some are very accurate some are not. Depends if the person used documentation or just got it from someone else's gedcom or, got confused, etc..but they can be good starting places.
My line is John Ogin family from Pennsylvania with members in Minnesota, Michigan,California and Washington/Oregon--and have found gedcoms with errors at least based on documentation I have found. So it is kinda hit and miss.
