Hi Kay,
I was hoping the DNA project could link the Offutts to the Moffat clan. I confess I know very little about how that works. I do have William Offutt b. 1674 Scotland, d. 1734 Maryland as the first Offutt in the colonies and would love to know if the “m” from William did replace the “m” in Moffat. I suppose that would make him illiterate… or perhaps he wished to change his name for other reasons. ???
I am an Offutt by marriage, but can confirm that you are my husband’s cousin. The common line goes back to Zachariah Offutt and Eleanor Beall.
