If there is a connection, it's probably in Wales or England. There are mentions of Richard OWENS in 1648, VA, & 1649 & 1672, MD, but there was also Richard b. ca. 1662, Wales, who went to Maryland. There are several entries in J. D. WARFIELD's Founders of Anne Arundel & Howard Cos., MD, for Richard OWENS / OWINGS: P. 6: In 1648, the vestry of Elizabeth River Church (Church of England, in Virginia) were Francis MASON, John HILL, Cornelius LLOYD, & Henry CATLIN...At the county court of 1649, the year these parties left for Maryland, the record said, "Whereas, Mr. Edward LLOYD & Mr. Thomas MEERES, commissioners, with Edward SELBY, Richard DAY, Richard OWENS, Thomas MARSH, George KEMP, and John NORWOOD were presented to ye board by the sheriff, for seditious sectuaries for not repairing to their church and for refusing to hear common prayer--liberty is granted till October next to inform their judgements and to conform." 8: Rent Rolls show that Edward LLOYD in 1649 was granted a permit to lay out one thousand acres on the western side of Chesapeake Bay to the northward of the Patuxent River and a small creek about the middle of The Cliffs, adjoining lands of Richard OWENS. 88: Lancelot WARFIELD, II {1772 - 1841}, m. {Sept. 1795, Anne Arundel Co.} Mary WARFIELD, d/o Capt. Issue, Philemon, Lancelot, II, & Ann Maria, wf/o Thomas OWINGS of Richard OWINGS & Ruth WARFIELD. 129-130: Early among the land holders of North Severn was Christopher RANDALL...He died in 1684, when an inventory of his estate, returned by Matthew HOWARD, shows his wife was Joan. Richard OWINGS, a brother-in-law of Thomas RANDALL, son of Christopher, was a debtor. 385-390: Upon the Middle Patuxent, nestled under hills on all sides, was an old-time mill. It was known as Richard Owings Mill, now Simpsonville. Upon a southern hill stands the...residence of the late Major OWINGS. [Dr. Joshua WARFIELD's daughter Ruth m. Richard OWINGS.
