The 1986 publication “ODUM/ODOM Research Notes: North Carolina and South Carolina, The Early Years” , still under copyright, is now available on CD.
Many online refer to the work as "ODOM Family Book". That reference is incorrect and misleading. The title correctly states what is included in the book.
The book is NOT a genealogy of any particular ODOM family, but rather it is an abstracted, organized, completely indexed compilation of legal records [county by county] found in many counties of the two states of North and South Carolina in the "early years" i. e., up to 1850.
Emphasis is given to census records; land records [ both grants and deeds]; and probates. Many marriages are included from North Carolina, but South Carolina did not enter marriages into their legal records until around 1900.
