Jakob Severtsen Odland was my great-great-grandfather on my mother's side. He was apparently born 4/29/1813 in the region of Tysvaer, Norway, and died 6/4/1885, in the same area. His son Andreas Severtsen Odland was born 1/18/1858 at Bokn Island, Norway and died 4/29/1923 in Norma, ND. Andreas (usually known as Andrew) had several daughters, one of whom (Cecelia) was my maternal grandmother. Cecelia was born 5/25/1884 in Plano, IL and died 6/30/1930 in Volga, SD. My mother, born Elaine Kalberg in Volga, was born in 1917 and died in 1985. She and her sister, Eleanor, visited Norway around 1980 and chatted with numerous Odland family members. They also visited Tysvaer Church and examined parish records, and that is where these older dates and names are from. One of Mom's cousins was Ottar Odland, who retired as sort of executive with the Norwegian State TV Network. He may still be alive, because my 36 year old daughter visited with him and his wife just a couple of years ago at their home in Norway. Ottar graduated from the University of Chicago, and spoke perfect English when he visited my family in the early '70's. Probably more than you really wanted to know? I do have a few more details about some of the ancestors, and when I get them sorted out, I'll pass them on. I'd be very interested in whatever information you may have about the Odlands, since I have had a very difficult time reconstructing my grandmother's life history. I do believe that Erik Halvorsen Odland is related based upon his birthdate and places of birth and death.
