Jerrilynn, This might be Edbert Franklin Oder, b Nov 21, 1823, d. Feb 5, 1907 in Falmouth of Stafford County. He appeared in the Stafford County census records in 1850, 1860 (as E.F. Oder), 1870, 1880, and 1900. He was a blacksmith who married first Sarah Whiting (8 children)before 1850, and then Mariah Coakley (4 children)in 1880. His death was reported in the Fredericksburg Free Lance Star on file in the Fredericksburg Library, and you can find a lot of records about him and his father Thomas Oder on-line at the Stafford County website. He was sometimes referred to as Edward Oder in these records.
I saw a reference to his service in the Civil War, but I have seen no record of his serving in the militia prior to that. But he would have been 25 in 1846 and could have done so. That's a good catch. Where did you find it?
Hope this helps. Ken Oder
