Hi all of you oderific Anglophiles. Do a google search for "Slawomir Oder," and you will find that he is a Polish Monsignor in Rome currently in charge of the beatification process for the late Pope John Paul. He was born on 7 August 1960 in Chelmza, Poland and is attached to the Diocese of Torun, which is just south of Gdansk (Danzig). I suspect that his family was German and that after WW II they found themselves on the wrong side of the border. Slawomir means "peace to the Slavs," which is what I would have named my son at that time and place with a surname like Oder.
