Hi Dennis, Nancy Oder was the daughter of Thomas Odor and Hester (maiden name unknown). Thomas Odor was from Fauquier County, Virginia, and died in Culpeper County in 1794. I have found no record of Nancy's birth, but it seems likely she was born in one of those two counties around 1780. Thomas Odor's widow Hester and most of her children moved to Garrard County, KY, in 1813. I had the impression Samuel and Nancy moved with her, but I couldn't find him in the Ky census records, so maybe that's wrong. One thing for sure is Samuel Butt used a power of atty to sell the Culpeper County farm owned by Thomas Odor's heirs in 1815(Culpeper Co. Deed Book FF, p.330)and he released a mortgage on the property on June 18, 1821 (DB MM, p. 297). Nancy is named in that release so it looks like she was still alive in 1821. If you haven't already seen it, you may want to look at a website called Gen-nections at http://home.adelphia.net/~peagleson.schedule/html#stone. That site summarizes research on William Butt, who may be the father of the Samuel Butt who married Nancy Oder. Good luck with this. Ken Oder
