ODEN Y-DNA PROJECT STABLISHED

Greetings to all our ODEN Family Researchers

It has been a long time since I mailed all of you. I want to let you know that we have an ODEN Y-DNA Project carried by Family Tree DNA. If you are not familiar with Y-DNA use this website and follow all the links to get up to date on the new Genealogy Tool.
www.familytreedna.com

We have already tested 4 Oden males. Three of them matched and the common ancestor is the father of Thomas Oden of Charles County, MD and Loudoun County. VA.; Hezekiah and Alexander Oden of MD. and SC. That individual is Thomas Oden of Maryland. We have a paper trail to these three brothers.

Alas, the 4th Oden Male did not match to the other three. That Oden male is from my ancestor Solomon Oden. The first time Solomon appears is in the Tax Records and Militia records of Loudoun County, VA., he migrated to Williamson County, TN.

We are moving the Oden Project from Relative Genetics to Family Tree DNA. During the Month of March we can get tests run for about 1/3 the cost of what we were paying at Relative Genetics and we are separating the Project from a joint Project of Odom/Odum/Oden and similar spellings. We thought it would be better to have a stand alone Project. One thing that we did prove was that the Oden and Odom families of SC and NC were not matches.

WHY AM I WRITING YOU?

I hope that each of you would consider having your Male Oden tested since we can get it done for $119.00 now instead of the $259.00 it normally costs for 37 markers. You can also get a 25 marker test for $89.00 instead of $181.00. We prefer the 37 marker because it is more reliable but the 25 marker is a good start and could be extended at a later date - but for about $100.00 more.

The test is very simple. Family Tree DNA will send a kit of two swabs and two vials and a return envelope. Swab the inside of your cheek and deposit the end of the swab into one of the vials. Repeat with the second swab in eight hours. seal the two vials in the envelope and return. In about 5 or 6 weeks you ill get the results.
We will see who you match.

Please consider doing this. This is the very cheapest it has ever been. Let me hear from you.

Bill Coles
