Kathi:
The reason I am contacting you is that I recently received information about a DNA sample of an individual who traces back to William Odell / Odle and Elizabeth (Talbot ?). I personally rechecked his lineage and I had to come to the same conclusion. This DNA sample shows that there is no relationship between the William who married Elizabeth Talbot and Thomas Odell, Jr. and Margaret Beall, who everyone seems to have accepted, including me, to be his parents. I have had a WEB page covering the Odell family up and running for 20 + years, and this blew my mind. I do know that the late Sharon Doliante who authored "Maryland and Virginia Colonials" did not believe they were related, but I went along with everyone else and showed them as such.
In re-reading Thomas Odell, Sr's will of 1717, however, I noticed that he stated "bott in case my son Thomas Odell dye without issue the land to descend ..." If William Odell was born in about 1714, as everyone claims, I would think that Thomas, Sr. would know his son Thomas, Jr. had a three year old child since they were living near each other.
Right now I am at a loss regarding this and I simply am trying to bounce it off of other Odell / Odle researchers to see what they think. Would like to hear from you.
