David: I have seen your postings on many ocassions and generally have no problem with what you have. I have researched the Odell/Odle line for about thirty years and have an Odell web site that has been up and running for many years. One thing that has always bothered me, however, is the tendency of so many to try and push the given name of Reginald into the Odell family. My web page begins with Thomas, the immigrant, and goes down another five generations, with cildren of the seventh generation being listed. In thirty years I have never found one single individual that was named Reginald associated with the Odell family of Maryland, and since no one has ever truly determined where Thomas came from in England, I really question that his father was named Reginald. There are many Rignalls in the Odell family, however, that people invariably think should be Reginald. Even Sharon Doliante in her book "Maryland and Virginia Colonials" makes this error. Admittedly, there have been some pretty strange spellings of Rignall in the records, but the name is Rignall. Rignall is an English surname, and its use in the Odell family is no different that naming children Prather Odell or Gazaway Odell. Using surnames for given names in the 1700's and 1800's was quite common. Anyway, my point is that I do not believe there is any real evidence to support the assumption that Thomas' father was named Reginald, even though a person named Reginald Odell is found in the England records. If you have not run across my web page it can be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jacmac/odell.htm I am still working on this family, so there are some areas that are incomplete.
