Aaron There is a book that might be of help for you it is: Twelve families - an American experience: a history of selected lineages..... by William F O'Dell library number 929.273 Od2. I have not been able to get a copy of this book but it is often cited as a source. I have the same problem you do. My ancestor is Nathaniel Odell born 1816 in NY. Lived for a time in Seneca Co. NY then moved to Calhoun Co MI and finally Cass Co IA where he died in 1882. Some say that he was the son of Augustine Odell b.1776 (and Lydia Newman), son of Cptn Augustine Odell b.1740 both of whom were born in NY. A 1837 MI Census Index shows Nathaniel and an Isaac in Calhoun Co MI. The 1870 Iowa Census shows an Archibald and Mary living with Nathaniel in Iowa. One source I have found has Ransom Odell and Lydia Barlow having the following children:Archibald, Reuban, Benjamin, Isaac, Nathanial, Austin and Marcia. But another source says she is a direct descendant of Ransom and these are not his children. There is a man writing a series on Beekman Patent of Dutchess Co NY where Augustine Odell was born. However, he has not gotten to the book about the O names. He is at www.beekmansettlers.com/patent/html I am sorry that I have probably given you more questions than answers but we have been struggling with this for years.
