I am looking for information on Matthew O'Dea b. Youghal, Co Cork c. 1838. He left Ireland in 1858 for the Indian Artillery Corps.
I think he is related to my ggrandfather Lawrence Francis O'Dea b. 22nd Nov 1881 probably on the boat between India and Ireland. His parents are listed as Matthew and Mary O'Dea. He was baptised in Karachi on 3rd Dec 1881.
He worked on and off for the Indian Railways as did my grandfather Dermot O'Dea b. 1908, Nagpur, India.
He had at least one sister and a brother, who originally lived in India, but are thought to have emigrated from there to South Africa to become farmers in around 1920.
I would be very grateful for any information regarding any Matthew O'Deas or O'Deas from India or South Africa.
