Carol,

The only O'Day family in Sangamon Co. Illinois (the location of New Berlin) in 1880 was that of Daniel and Bridget O'Day, both born in Ireland. They lived in Island Grove TWP which adjoins New Berlin. The four oldest children were born in New Jersey, but the five younger ones were born in Illinois. Daughter Bridget was reported as 6 (b. 1874), but this is most likely the family you are looking for. For a township map of Sangamon County see http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilsangam/twp-nw.htm
