pg. 53. 16 Nov 1781. Petition of Mary Carradine that she was a widow with three children when she married Parker Carradine and had possession of 4 negroes and much other property belonging to her children and is big with another and in much distress, not having wherewith to subsist herself and her children. She asks for help. Signed Mary Carradine. // To Francois Farrell, Attorney for the District of Natchez. Your petitioner, Mary Carradine, according to your orders presents the several persons who have knowledge that she was married to Parker Carradine. David Odum declares he was present at the time when Mary Carradine was married to Parker Carradine and he was the person sent for the minister who married them. Nov 16, 1781. // Wm. Brocus declared that he was present when Mary Carradine married Parker Carradine and that sd Mary had 4 slaves of her own, as likewise hogs, horned cattle, horses, etc. (p 54) Signed with a mark. // 16 Nov. 1781. Wm. Brocus and David Odum declared on oath that Mary Carradine, otherwise Mary Abraham Odum, is verily the wife of Parker Carradine, the Rebel arrested and sent to N. O. and his property confiscated to the use of the King, they having been at the marriage by James Smert (Smart or Smith) in South Carolina where they at that time resided; and which sd Mary Abraham Odum has also declared on oath that she was married to sd Carradine, being then the widow of John Collins (or Collier) by whom she had issue: three children living, namely John, aged 15, Joshua, aged 13, and William, aged 12 years six months. When she was married the second time her property was: 4 slaves, "Peter" aged 30, nat. of Guinea, "Raphael" aged 16, nat. of S. C., "Anny" aged 30, nat. of Va., the fourth a negro boy who was exchanged for cattle during her community with sd Parker Carradine. She lost vouchers in her emigration from South Carolina to the Dist. of Natchez. Wit: Estevan Minor, Francis Farrell, William Vousdan. // p. 55. 16 Nov 1781 In consequence of the foregoing declarations of William Brocus and David Odum which appears to verify the property of Mary Carradine and upon the representation by her made, have left in her possession 3 slaves (named as above) and other property until the determination of the Superior Government may be known, William Brocus and John Lusk being securitety for the safe keeping of sd slaves and cattle.

Before John Smith, Syndic for the District of Villa Gayoso, David and Susanny Odam, who habe been duly sworn, declare that a negro woman named "Rachell", the mother of ten children, now in the possesion of Mary Carradine and is her property, given to the said Mary Carradine by her father Abraham Odam, Senior, decd. Susany (X) Odam, David Odam. Wit: John Smith, John Brooks. // 17 Feb. 1797. Before Don Manuel Gayoso de Lemos appeared Parker Carradine, as an inhabitant of this Government, and declared that the within declaration is true and acknowledged to have in his possession the said slaves lawfully belonging to his said wife, Mary Carradine. No. 769. Claimant, Edward Turner, 20 Mch. 1804. Wit: W. E. Brazea; 29 Apr. 1805. Certif. D-3 issued 22 Dec 1806. (Conflicting with No. 763.) Edward Turner claims preemption right to 320 acres on the middle fork of Cole's Cr. in Jefferson County, the same included in a donation claim of John Burch for 640 acres. G. Poindexter for claimant. Description: 160 acres, an oblong square, with the improvements in the center, b. on south by D. Odum's patent. (signed) E. Turner. [Register. Later a Commissioner.]
"Unrecorded Land Claims"
No. 1100. Claimant: Abijah Hunt, 24 Mar. 1804. Wit: Robert Throckmorton, April 29 1805. See No. 207. Certificate A-581, issued to claimant Sept. 11, 1805. Abijah Hunt hereby gives notice that he claims 195 acres of land in Jefferson County, by virture of a grant, including the land, from the Spanish Government to David Odum, now deceased, fully executed previous to the 27th October 1795, and conveyance of 100 acres of said grant from sd Odum to John Hinds, dated the 20 Oct. 1799; and conveyance thereof from sd Hinds to this claimant, dated June 3, 1801; and conveyance of 84 acres, the residue, of said 195 acres from Frances Odum and Abner Pipes, executors of the will of said deceased, dated 16 April 1803, to this claimant; also three square lots in the town of Huntston, in the county of aforesaid, Nos. 15, 16, and 17, by virture of the aforesaid grant to said Odum and conveyed from said Odum to the said Hinds, and said conveyance from said Hinds to this claimant. No. 1640. Claimant: Edward Turner, 30 Mar. 1804. Residence proved in Journal. Certificate A-583 issued 11 Sept. 1805. Edward Turner hereby gives notice that he claims 15 acres by virture of a Spanish patent to David Odum in 1790, who afterwards died, leaving a will with Abner Pipes and Fanny Odum his exors. and by sd will authorized sd exrs. to sell sd tract to pay his just debts, who conveyed the sd land by two deeds, 13 Jan. and 23 Feb. 1803 to said Edward Turner, being that tract of land in Jefferson County on the Middle Fork of Cole's Creek adjoining the town of Greenville, on the west side thereof, beginning at Dr. Shaw's corner, the dividing line between the land of the legal representatives of sd Odum decd. and Mordecai Throckmorton.
