Hi, I am looking for information about my grandfather, John O'Connor, who lived in St. Paul Minnesota and became my grandfather when my mom was born in 1920. I have eliminated many John O'Connors, but looking at the 1905 census for Ramsey Co., I believe he was the John O'Connor who was either 12 or 14 years old in 1905. As a young man he was tall, dark and handsome. I have only one picture. I don't know if he and my grandmother were legally married or not. She and mom had the name O'Connor, but my mother's birth certificate is lost and there is no record of in the historical society's on line birth record database. He was out of my grandmother's and mother's lives from the time mom was two. She had no memory of him or information about him. He wasn't spoken of in our family. I have a letter from him to my grandmother, seeking reconcilliation (which clearly didn't happen) but it isn't dated. One more clue: I have a spoon from Stillwater State Prison date in the 1920's, and on the back is scratched in "love Jack." My grandmother had a spoon collection, so I think that's why she kept it. I have searched prison records for either staff or inmates in that time, and the only John O'Connor listed wasn't the right age or height. He was listed as 5'5", and my grandfather in the picture is several inches taller than my 5'8" grandmother. My mother was born in St. Paul in late November, 1920, so I know my grandfather was there in February. Love any info or recommendations anyone has. Thanks, Susan Lane Notify Administrator about this message?
