John O'Connor/Margaret Carney and/or son Bernard, county Mayo or other

I will be visiting Ireland in late June and am hoping to find records on GG Grandfather John O'Connor and his spouse GG Grandmother Margaret Carney, or their son Bernard (Barney) O'Connor. I've searched through Irish Family Heritage Foundation records and have found no records of birth, marriage or death of John or Margaret, and no birth record of Barney.
Our family records show John and Margaret lived in Swineford in County Mayo. I have no other info on them other than they had 10 children, one of whom was Bernard. I do have names of all of Bernard's siblings. I have birth date for Barney of 31 July 1840 in Ballyglass, County Mayo. Family records indicate Barney "spent his boyhood near Ballyneague at Ballyclaire, then went to England, Liverpool, Manchester, enlisted in the Union Army and came to the United States". (Perhaps this is Ballyclare, near Belfast? I have yet to find a Ballyneague, but found reference online to a 1600's document citing a Ballyneagh plantation near Ballyclare, NI. Perhaps that's the correct location.)
Other info: Barney married Ellen Fox, daughter of a Michael Fox of County Limerick, but I think that marriage happened in Missouri, USA. (I have records of Michael Fox's marriage to Johanna Fynn in County Cork in 1841, and plan to visit the parish where they married.) Barney died and is buried in Fredericktown, Missouri, dd 1905.

Any help as to next steps to locate any records on John or Margaret or Bernard would be appreciated. I arrive in Ireland June 23, 2009.
