I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN parish, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
For Michael O'Connor B 1844 (exact) somewhere in Ireland without a known father's forename, I found 56 B rcds. An impossible number.
For Cath(erine) Courtney B 1839 +/- 1 yr somewhere in Ireland without a known father's forename, I found 6 B rcds: 1838 Down, 1838 Armagh, 1838 Cork, 1838 Louth, and 2-1839 Cork.
For Cath(erine) Courtney M 1864 (exact) ditto, I found 1 M rcd in Co. Cork.
For Michael O'Connor M ditto, I found 22 M rcds, with 1 M rcd in Co. Cork. However, when I screen at the parish level there is a NO MATCH. This infers your date may be incorrect. It would be highly ususual for the Irish to wait 2 yrs to have their 1st child. I searched for the yrs 1865, 66, and 67, but couldn't find a match. Therefore the marriage must have been in in an area whose rcds haven't been digitized. You can wait until the database is more complete.
Alternatively, B/M/D registration was civil after 1863. Civil rcds are kept by the General Register Office. Contact it at http://www.groireland.iehttp://www.groireland.ie for certificate copies. Fees apply.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helped. Good luck.
