Genetics is fairly new, it's not everything..It is another tool for Genealogy.
The cost is around $200.+upgrades if you wish. You can pass on your sequence to your family to use. They may even split the cost of the dna cheek swab test?
Another of Andrew O'Connor's male descendants has had his dna done and he and I match 100%.
His geandfather and my father's grandfather were brothers. This is confirmed now with our dna match.
This Y-DNA is only done through the male line. Females do not carry the male Y. If a female wanted tests done she would have to have a brother tested, or another known direct male ancestor.
For that matter Barb I can give you Andrew's dna sequence.
It's a list of numbers that you compare with others. Email me anytime. There are a number of data bases around the world that you can search through.
Here is a searchable data base. Search by Last name, or R1B1C genetic group. Carefully enter Andrew's sequence and create your own profile. Then click compare and click results..FREE.
You will see the numbers on the chart to compare. We're looking for O'Connor/Conner who match us about 23/25 numbers. This would be a great match.
Create a free profile. enter Andrew as Cork. don't specify city or county. we don't know that yet.

Actually I have a 67 number sequence. I think this might enough to start with. For you..free.
If you see others who match with a different surname, it probably implies that there is an ancestor connection before surnames were in place.
