Hanora O'Connell & Denis O'Connor from Kilconlea, Abbeyfeale
I've hit a brick wall and am hoping that someone out there can help me find any information on my great great grandparents! They were Denis O'Connor and Hanora O'Connell from Kilconlea, Abbeyfeale, Limerick.Denis supposedly came to USA (possibly around 1900 and possibly to Chicago and possibly later so did his daughter Elizabeth (aka Johanna, and maybe Josie, which was also the name of one of her daughters) O'Connor Dee) after a fight with Hanora over a cow.I haven't been able to find him or any record of him in the USA.
Hanora stayed on in Kilconlea, raising the children and running the family farm with her son, Denis. My great grandfather was supposedly the eldest son, Timothy. He, too, left Abbeyfeale around the late 1890's after a fight with Hanora, also settling in USA but having no contact with his dad.One of his brothers, Richard and a cousin raised by Hanora, John Michael, followed him to the US and both settled nearby.(John Michael and his two sisters, Annie & Nellie, lived on the family plot and became orphaned. They may have had another brother who immigrated to Canada and joined the military.Annie & Nellie joined the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and were "stationed" in Texas, USA.) Denis, who stayed on to work the family farm and was known as Diny-O, married Ellen (aka Nanno or Ellie) O'Connell; they had 7 children. The family eventually sold the farm to the government and resettled to another farm elsewhere in Co. Limerick
Sadly, the most notable member of the family at one time was through Hanora's side of the family (the O'Connells).Hanora's sister, Kate, married John P. Colbert (the "Praying Colberts").Their youngest son, Patrick, was drowned when the Titanic sank.He was crossing to join his eldest brother, Christopher, who was a Christian Brother in Quebec.
Does anyone know anything about any of these (my) folks? If so, I'd appreciate anything! :)
