I don't think we're talking about the same OConnells, but maybe you'll find a connection.Here is some info on my great-grandfather Michael OConnell, his son John, and his son's son Daniel. My father Daniel is the only OConnell ancestor I know of who lived in Chicago during your time frame.
I was tremendously excited when you wrote of a Michael OConnell who came from Cork because we know nothing of my OConnell ancestors home in Ireland.

In 1910, John was farming in Deer River, Itasca, MN. The 1918 Census shows him working for MN
Cedar Log. Co. Deer River, and describes him as medium height, small build, blue eyes, and dark
hair. In 1930, he was 55, working as a logger of forest products in Deer River, Itasca, MN.
According to "Minnesota, Deaths and Burials, 1835-1990," John died in 1943 in Durand, MN, which is
about 15 miles North of Bemidji. According to the 2000 Census, Durand has a population of 175.
