O'Connell Family Lore!
We have very little in the way of family traditional lore passed down by word of mouth in our O'Connell branch but what we do have is interesting. Our New Zealand family remember themselves as the O'Connells of Causeway and Riverstown and our Australian family remember themselves as Ballyegan O'Connells. Edward O'Connell b.c.1760 in Galy parish is buried in Knockanure burial ground. His son James O'Connell b.1800 d.1868 leased land at Lahardane townland Killehenny parish from John L Gunn. John Gunns father was George Gunn of Kilmourna in Knockanure. Kilmourna was known as Riversdale house when it was occupied by the Raymond family from Ballyegan, Galy parish. George Gunn was known as George Gunn of Causeway and Kilmourna. Both the Gunn and the Raymond families previously occupied Rattoo townland in Causeway parish along with many O'Connells. This suggests to me that the O'Connell, Gunn and Raymond families of Causeway are connected in someway and that finding this conection will tell me what branch of the greater O'Connell family we belong to. Are there any other Causeway O'Connells, Gunns or Raymonds out there who can help me in my search.
