hey everybody!
i just started uncovering a bit of my Ochs history, but no one in my family can answer this one question.
you see, my great great grandfather, Konrad Ochs, was born in Schoenfeld, Russia in 1847. i've always been told that i'm German to the core. i know "Ochs" is a German name, but i can't figure out why sooo many German people were living in that part of Russia in the 1800's. cheap land prices? good farming? a nice view of the kremlin? what's the deal? i'm German, but none of my ancestors were born in Germany, and what's more, they never even lived in Germany for any extended period of time. if anyone can explain, i could sure use the help
thanks! laura
