I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Note 1 - Without a KNOWN parish, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%. Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database. Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome). For James O'Brien B 1816 +/- 4 yrs in Co. Wicklow with the father's forename unknown, I found 6 B rcds: 1814 (Michael) 3-1817 (2-John, Michael, ???) , 2-1820 (Henry, Luke). For James O'Brien M 1846 +/- 4 yrs somewhere in Ireland, I found 122 M rcds. For Ann(e) Dunne M ditto, I found 35 M rcds. For the marriage, will let you compare the two sets of M rcds to see if there are matching yr/cnty combinations, then compare at the parish level to see if there is a parish in common. For James O'Brien Jr B 1847 +/- 4 yrs in Co. Wicklow with a father forenamed James, I found 3 B rcds: 2-1843, & 1844. For Henry O'Brien B 1852 ditto, I found 0 B rcds. The only B rcd for this name combination is in Co. Kilkenny. For the daughters, I found B rcds for a few of the names in Wicklow, some in other counties, and some nowhere. These results are inconclusive at best. Suggest you research this database further B4 buying the right to view rcds. Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg. Hope this helps. Good luck. Notify Administrator about this message?
