OBITUARY: Sarah Melissa Tucker7 January 1843 – 7 May 1930
Mrs. Sarah M. Nichol died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Butler, on Waverly Avenue, Highland Park, Michigan on 7 May 1930, age 87 years.She suffered a stroke a few weeks ago, from which she never rallied.
Sarah Melissa Rucker, daughter of John and Roxann Tucker, was born in Clayton, Jefferson County, New York state, where she spent her early life.
Coming to Michigan in 1858 and taught school for a number of terms and on 3 February 1861 married Thomas Nichol, who died six years ago.She resided on the same farm near McGregor for all the time, excepting the few months spent with her daughter.She was of Revolutionary stock and took great pride in the fact that her ancestors were among the colonists.Their hardships were always an example to help her bear hardships of her pioneer days in Michigan.
She was the mother of 8 children; 6 still survive her:Mrs. Ambrose [Roxie] Thompson of Mikado, Mrs. Richard {Mary Jane] Fountain of Downington, Robert and Thomas of McGregor, Mrs. Harry [Libby] Butler and John Nichol of Detroit.
